89 APS Death on Duty

2/18/2013 - JOINT BASE ANDREWS, MD.  -- Senior Airman John E. King II died while on duty at Joint Base Andrews Sunday. SrA King was assigned to the 89th Aerial Port Squadron.

"The 89th, and all of Team Andrews are hurting after this tragic loss of life," said Col. Mike Minihan, 89th Airlift Wing Commander, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Airman King's family, friends and coworkers; our Air Force is a family, and they will not go through this alone."

The Military and Family Support Center is available to those in need of support during this time, and can be reached at 301-981-7087. Additionally, the 11th Wing Chaplain's office can be reached at 301-981-2111.

The cause of death is currently under investigation. Media should contact Mr. Eric Sharman of 11th Wing Public Affairs at 240-988-9234.

Well said TSgt Tiernan. He was definitely one to remember and had a personality that could make a positive impact on anyone's bad day during our BMT. It was an honor to train with him and an even bigger honor to call him a true Wingman.

I was SRA King's MTI in 2010. For some reason I remembered him most I don't. Maybe it was his attitude or maybe it was the mullet he showed up with. Whatever the reason things like this are not easy to read. We do our best to prepare them to go out to the Air Force never expecting them to really get hurt. Rest in Peace Airman King.
