4/5/2012 - JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. -- Sunshine and blue skies welcomed this spring season just in time for the formal grand opening of the Joint Base Andrews Home and Garden Outdoor Living Center at the Andrews Home Traditions Exchange March 30.

The grand opening officially began with a few brief orations by key leaders who were integral to the success of the newly-opened outdoor center.

"This is a welcome addition to our establishment," said Chris Holifield, Andrews Base Exchange general manager. "The new addition is part of our strategy to consolidate our operations, getting us that much closer to becoming a one-stop shop."

Convenience for Team Andrews members is at the forefront of the operation's considerations.

Colonel Gregory J. Rosenmerkel, 11th Mission Support Group commander also delivered a brief speech just before the professionally-displayed red, white and blue ribbon was seared into by a pair of larger-than-life shears.

"For those who don't know, AAFES contributes a significant amount of their proceeds back into the Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Fund that adds up to about $6 million worth here at Andrews," Rosenmerkel said. "Even if you purchase items online, you can spend your money here and save the tax because that money goes right back into our community."

Sha Carter, who manages the new outdoor living center and her crew, provided free cake, games, drawings, giveaways as well as special deals throughout the store to commemorate the opening.
