Documents to Bring
1. A COPY OF LAST YEAR'S TAX RETURN & W-2 with both fed and state printed out on paper.
2. W-2 Forms for all jobs for you and your spouse already printed out on paper. Come prepared.
3. All 1099 FORMS from those who pay you income. Look for the "Form 1099" on the paper to see that you have the tax document and not just a monthly statement. Examples: 1099-INT (interest), 1099-DIV (dividends), 1099-B (stock sales -- bring cost basis too), 1099-R (retirement), SSA-1099 (Social Security). Many others usually arrive in early February marked "Important Tax Document."
4. If you paid tuition, bring 1098-T and know how much you paid after any reimbursement.
5. If you bought or sold a home, bring the two page HUD-1 Settlement Sheet.
6. If you own a home, bring the Form 1098 for mortgage interest paid. It may also show real estate tax you paid through the bank. Also bring a list of other Itemized Deductions like charity gifts.
7. Child Care provider, address, and ID number.
8. If you bought energy saving items bring receipts.
9. Bring a check for Direct Deposit numbers.
10. It would help if you do an internet search for IRS Form
13614-C, fill it out and bring it. This will help you get organized and not miss deductions.
11. Bring your spouse, if any, to sign.
12. Study the PRIOR YEAR RETURN from item one above. Anything else you needed for last year will probably be needed again this year, so bring it.
In addition to these things, please bring your military ID and Social Security cards for everyone on your return. Keep each tax year separate and keep your dependents' income separate from yours.
